SHADOW OF ETERNITY / CLOVERDALE, CA

SHADOW OF ETERNITY / THYME SQUARE / CLOVERDALE, CA

SATINLESS STEEL, CORE-TEN.

Installed in front of the future Cloverdale City Hall, I wanted to consider concepts that would serve as building blocks for the community. As an architect, the play of light & the changes of shadows indicating time were starting points for my work. This sculpture embraces ideas of permanence with material & monumental form, but also impermanence with the integration of the sundial into its design. The environment affects the core ten pieces of this work, their patina evolving and changing over time unlike the stainless steel, which is in its ever reflective nature never changes. It honors the past & future with the linear elements appearing to move, with lines coming together to form a moment or memory, while the ring establishes a closing loop of group experience.  This work was awarded 1st Place & Best in Show in the 7th annual Cloverdale Sculpture Exhibition. Afterwards, the piece was purchased by the Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation & is now on loan to the City of Cloverdale.
